CASA PIZARRA
Udias, Cantabria, Espanha

Slate House is a house built on a steeply sloping plot in a rural municipality of Cantabria, Spain.
The volume sits on top of a platform located at the highest point of the site, with its main spaces opening toward the spectacular western views, dominated by the majestic mountains of Picos de Europa.

The program is organized with the daytime area on the ground floor, directly connected to the terrain and the swimming pool, while the nighttime area is on the upper floor, featuring bedrooms with balconies.
A transversal circulation axis connects the staircase to the entrance, which is expressed volumetrically as a rotated wooden-clad cube.

Externally, the volume is articulated as a juxtaposition of two displaced cubes with a geological, sculptural, and stone-like character which are integrated into the landscape through its slate cladding, sourced from nearby quarries, and through the dialogue established between the sloping geometry of the roofs and the steep contours of the Cantabrian valleys.
